Daytime and Nighttime confusion
« on: May 04, 2014, 04:42:30 am »
Hello, guys.

One of the things that have bothered me the most in this film, is when in the day the scenes are supposed to take place.

For example: from Deck's first meeting with Bryant until going home to find Rachael waiting for him, how much time has passed? The whole night? It seems that Deckard was eating chinese food at night, but then when summoned to Tyrell, he asks him to close the windows, since it's "too bright". Is it morning by then? Then again, later in the film, Roy and Pris are having breakfast with Sebastian, but then Sebastian and Roy go to meet Tyrell and after killing him, Roy sees stars from the elevator.

So, basically: what the heck is going on with the time in BR?  :D

There is a permanent fog and cloud cover over the City.
Its perpetually raining.
The looming skyscrapers block out any other light from getting in.
So the city is constantly in a perpetual "night".

I think that was the point...to make the entire film set at night.

Put the city into a perpetual night and you can avoid the daytime stuff.
All the action of a film noire takes place at night.

But every now and then, we rise above the cover, enough to get a glimpse of
the daylight. Enough to remind the characters and the viewer that there is a
hidden (and almost forbidden) outside world beyond the confines of this city.

I don't think knowing a particular time of day was important to the story, but
when he is in Tyrell's office and is blinded by the brightness, the point was just
to remind us of the fact that Deckard is not used to daylight.
Don't Panic!
