Web Series Tied to ‘Blade Runner’

Back in June Ridley Scott announced that a new division of his commercials company, RSA Films was working on a video series called “Purefold.” which can be said is loosely related to Blade Runner. The series of linked 5 to 10 minute shorts, aimed first at the Web and then perhaps television will be released thru a “Creative Commons” license giving audience, brands and platforms rights to use anything released as they see fit and this will be the first time ever something like this happens.

Press Release

Purefold is the first product conceived by Ag8 and developed in partnership with Ridley and Tony Scott’s newly launched entertainment division Free Scott. Purefold is an open media franchise designed for brands, platforms, filmmakers, product developers and communities to collaboratively imagine our near future.

With a central theme ‘What does it mean to be human?’, the franchise explores the subject of empathy – a shared theme with Ridley Scott’s most compelling Science Fiction movie, Blade Runner.

The franchise contains infinite interlinked story lines, turned into short-format episodes by global talent pool of directors, and informed by real-time online conversations from the audience, which are harvested through FriendFeed, the world’s leading ‘life streaming’ technology site FriendFeed

Purefold content will be distributed according to the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike 3.0 license, giving both audiences, brands and platforms unprecedented equal use rights through their participation.

Purefold is supported by commercial and academic pillars, such FriendFeed., Creative Commons, WPP, Aegis, Publicis and Naked Communications

If you have questions, please contact David or Tom by email, or post a message in the Purefold discussion group on FriendFeed

Nothing has as of yet been released as of yet but it will be very interesting to see what will come out of this project.

"Do Androids Dream Of Electric Sheep" Comics comming this June

PHILIP K. DICK’S
DO ANDROIDS DREAM OF ELECTRIC SHEEP?
24 ISSUE MAXI-SERIES
STARTS THIS JUNE

Issue #1 Includes Backmatter by Warren Ellis
First Issue Features Covers by Denis Calero, Bill Sienkiewicz, Scott Keating & Moritat

“Philip Dick, to my mind, was the great visionary writer of the 20th Century.” – Warren Ellis
“After I finished reading the screenplay for BLADE RUNNER, I got the novel out and looked through it. The two reinforce each other, so that someone who started with the novel would enjoy the movie and someone who started with the movie would enjoy the novel.” – Philip K. Dick
April 7th, Los Angeles – BOOM! Studios, in partnership with Electric Shepherd Productions, proudly announces that worldwide best-selling sci-fi writer Philip K. Dick’s award-winning DO ANDROIDS DREAM OF ELECTRIC SHEEP? is coming to comics this June. Called “a masterpiece ahead of its time, even today” and having served as the basis for the film BLADE RUNNER, BOOM! Studios is honored to present the complete novel transplanted into the comic book medium, mixing all new panel-to-panel continuity with the actual text from the novel in an innovative, ground-breaking 24-issue maxi-series.
The first issue will include backmatter by Warren Ellis and ships with three covers in a 50/25/25 split by Denis Calero, Bill Sienkiewicz and Scott Keating. A fourth cover by Moritat will be offered as a 1 in 25 incentive.
“I have been a huge fan of Philip K. Dick’s for years. I subscribed to the PKD Newsletter when I was in high school and have early editions of all his works,” said BOOM! Studios Marketing and Sales Director Chip Mosher. “You can’t imagine how excited I am personally, and BOOM! is as a whole, to be working on this project. I can’t wait to bring a whole new generation of fans to Dick’s original vision that has inspired so many.”
“We are thrilled that DO ANDROIDS DREAM OF ELECTRIC SHEEP? is being adapted for this audience by such a talented team. We’ve been incredibly impressed with BOOM!’s ability to create such a faithful interpretation of the original work without sacrificing their own original instincts and artistic sensibilities,” said Laura Leslie and Isa Dick Hackett of Electric Shepherd Productions. “Through this medium, readers will now have visual access to parts of the novel not explored in the film adaptation BLADE RUNNER.”
DO ANDROIDS DREAM OF ELECTRIC SHEEP? takes place in a world where San Francisco lies under a cloud of radioactive dust. The World War has killed millions, driving entire species to extinction and sending mankind off-planet. Those who remained coveted any living creature, and for people who couldn’t afford one, companies built incredibly realistic fakes: horses, birds, cats, sheep… even humans. Rick Deckard is an officially sanctioned bounty hunter tasked to find six rogue androids — they’re machines, that not only look, sound, and think like humans, but are clever, and most of all, dangerous just like humans.
Rick Deckard, Pris, The Voight-Kampff Test, Nexus 6 androids, the Tyrell Corporation: join us for the publishing event of the year!
DO ANDROIDS DREAM OF ELECTRIC SHEEP? ships this June, Diamond Code APR09 0725.

Want some Blade Runner Origami ??

I found in one of the threads while I was browsing around over at the Blade Runner Props forum and after ordering and receiving a set of Blade Runner origami (which I think was all very well made) I’d came to think that there must be others out there whom would like to know of this and maybe get their own origami set.

I ordered a set from Blade Runner Origami by Gaff and the set consists of the origami chicken, origami unicorn and also the little happy man that Gaff makes out of what I think is a match. The cost for all these items where $20.

I should point out that I am not involved in making or selling these items so I can not answer any questions you might have about them but I can say that I think they are very well made and Im very happy to have added them to my Blade Runner collection
So, for more information on these lovely origami items visit Blade Runner Origami by Gaff

2019: A Future Imagined – A Syd Mead Documentury

There’s a new documentury on Syd Mead called “2019: A Future Imagined” that’s availble online. It’s (for now) a short documentury but it will hopefully be a longer documentury with the support from the online community. You can find it as a digital download from the official website or Amazon.com.

Visual Futurist Syd Mead (“Blade Runner,” “Aliens,” “Tron”) reflects upon the nature of creativity and how it drives the future. Photographed in stunning High Definition, this featurette provides insight into the fascinating mind of one of the most influential artists of modern cinema
